1999 F250 Super Duty. Had it to the alignment shop three times and they still cant get the steering wheel to line up perfectly at the 12:00 position. Its been at 11:30, 1:30 and everywhere in between. I have verified that the caster, camber, and toe and all right in the middle of the spec range. So , can anyone tell how I can simply readjust the either one or both of the tie rod turnbuckles to move the steering wheel left or right and center up the wheel. I am tired of driving half across town and messing with the shop. I should be able to make a small adjustment to correct this mtself , ?no?
When you get an alignment there is a steering wheel lock tool they should be using that presses against the drivers seat and holds the steering wheel. First you lock the steering wheel at 12 and then you adjust the caster/ camber/ toe. Like andym said, whoever is doing it isnt doing a very good job, comebacks are not what a shop wants also you dont want either because you are spending more time waiting for them to fix it. Find a new one.

Grab your tie rods and rock them back and forth. Sometimes, the sleeves get tight and cause the tie rods to bind if the tech is not paying attention.
I never liked using steering wheel holders, but they do work if the alignment rack is in good shape. Too often, I see techs bring a car up on the rack without putting the pins in the turnplates. This destroys the plastic bearings inside the turnplate, and doesnt allow smooth movement of the front wheels when adjusting. Hence, a crooked steering wheel.
