Dana 60 front axle ID

I'm supposed to be buying a dana 60 from a 90 F350, it's all still on the frame(i get that part too) and rear axle. they all go together. anyhow. since the truck isn't sitting on top of this frame how am I to be sure I am getting what I'm paying for?

a ford D60 axle from a 90 F350 will have a low pinion, and the drive shaft will be on the driver side.

Ok thanks for the low pinion ID. Do you happen to know if has '60' stamped into the webbing like 60 rears do?

i want to say yes, but i can't remember if the front has it or not. another way to tell is the hubs. the 44 is smaller than the 60. here are some pics to give you a clue.

this is a D44 hub. notice it is smaller than the axle flange

and this is a D60 hub, it is the same size as the axle flange

i think so.will have to do some scrubbing.the cast in numbers don't stick out much and a few years of rust can make it tough to see.

No, it is a high pinion, even the axle in the pic from your 1988 you posted shows a high pinion. Ford never put in a low pinion Dana 60 after the 77.5 model years. Go look at a Chevy/Dodge version and they are night and day between a high and low pinion model.

Thanks tjc. Did you happen to look and see if there is that '60' stamped into the front webbing?

it would take a month with the pressure washer to get all the antirust compound (grease) off the axle to see if it was there.

I think the D60 has more cover bolts than the D44 but I am not real sure.

no they have the same amount I'm pretty sure BUT they are different sizes, I measured em once, 60s are a little over 12" 44s a little over 10" across the ring gear space in the cover.
