HD Radio

Any comments on HD radio? I am thinking of buying a HD radio cd player for my Ranger and was wondering if it is worth it. Do they have as good of recption when you are not in a HD market?

I read some on it on Crutchfield web site but would like some real experience.
Thanks Dan

I'm also interested. There are only a few recievers out so far and most of them are pretty cheap in price. Personally I'd like to get one thats only a tuner with no built in amps but a high quality unit.

I purchased a Kenwood DPX301 unit and added the Kenwood KTC-HR100 HD Tuner to it over Christmas break. So far, I really like it. I live in the Seattle area so currently there are about 10 HD Radio channels being broadcast. The way my unit works is it will first tune into the station via analog, then it will check to see if there is also a digital channel, if there is, it will switch to the digital HD mode. All of this takes place in about 2-3 seconds. If the channel is HD, it sounds GREAT!! It does truely sound like you are playing from a CD. If the channel is analog only, that is what you get. It sounds just the same as it did before. Again, the way my setup works is that all tuner functions are controlled by the new KTC-HR100 unit (the antenna plugs into the KTC-HR100 only) so the original tuner is deactivated.

My only issue is that I would like more than 10 HD channels. If you go to hdradio.com, they state that there will be 13 in my area soon but????

I recently install a JVC KD-HDR1 that was purchased at crutchfields. Not but a couple hd stations around but the regular stations are excellent as well. Needed new receiver so I figured it was worth the extra price. turned out to not be that expensive and everything about the new radio is excellent. check it out. I couldn't be more pleased.

I also just installed the JVC KD-HDR1 in my 99 Ranger with 4 Infinity 6x8 speakers. Huge improvement over stock cardboard speakers and factory cassette deck. I like the fact that the HD tuner is built in and the unit has a lot of flexability in adjusting the sound preferences via four preset EQ settings of a fully customizable user EQ setting.

I just wish all radio would pony up and switch to HD.
