Ok truck is an 2006, f250 crew cab 4x4, with of course, the 6.0 diesel,
and has around 6500 miles on it.
oil and filter changed at 1500 miles
and again at 6000 miles.
I started noticing this last week and it seams to be getting worse.
First thing in the morning, after the truck has sat for 12 hours cooling off, it starts normally, but after about 3 or 4 seconds, there is an odd 2 second long crunching noise comming from somewhere on the passenger side of the engine bay. It will only do it once a day, the first time I start it in the morning. The noise is getting louder, as well as it is starting to shake the truck. Heck, this morning, it knocked my coffee off the dash when it rocked the truck.
Anyone have any ideas? or should I be running to the dealer asap?
do you have the ac or the electronic control on auto? make sure you climate control is completely off and try starting it. if the noise goes away then it is the ac compressor and the noise is normal. the noise is caused by the compressor pumping liquid.
No, I have had it off the past 3 mornings, just to see if that might have been it.
Well this morning the crunch was loud enough for the guy next door to come over and ask what it was, so i think I am going to take it to the dealer today.
Only noise maker I'm aware over there is the vacuum pump, but I've not heard it referred to has a crunching sound. Would be good to open the hood and listen while someone else starts your truck to try and isolate it.
By chance was your neighbor looking for his cat when he heard the noise?
Sorry, couldn't resist.
