i installed 4inch stainless exhaust on my 02 ex7.3 this weekend and now i notice more smoke than usual.there was an oily coating on inside of pipe but i thought that would be burned off by now even though my driving has been all short trips.i have ford ais ,newfilter..any info would be appreciated.65000 miles.
The oil on the inside of the intake comes from the crank case breather located in the intake tube to the turbo. This is normal and will always be there. It does not burn off.
hey you can do the CCV mod (remove the vapors from the intake and route them outside)...guzzle http://guzzle.rbmicro.com/ccv1.html does a good writeup on it
WAIT a minuet that is not what you are talking about...you are taking about the coating on the exhaust pipes. i am not sure how long that will take to burn off or if it is even what is causing the smoke...sorry
But that mod is one to look into i hope to find time to do it soon, and Guzzle's site is full of great info
If you are talking about blue smoke, and a coating of oil in the inside of your EXHAUST pipe, then your turbocharger is passing oil. If you are mechanically adept, you can rebuild it yourself like i did. However i guess you should begin looking on ebay for a rebuilt or new turbo. I have seen several nice ones on eBay recently. Good Luck.
