My bug shield on my hood came with my truck and, as you know, these things get kinda dull over time. I've seen them painted to match/accent the truck's paint but I didn't want to do THAT much work.
Here's my solution..... remove the shield and being careful not to break it, wash it throughly and dry it completely. Wipe the plastic down with mineral spirits. (acetone will start eating the plastic immediately .... don't ask!) Allow the surface to dry throughly. Spray on a coat of your favorite bedliner-in-a-can. (I used NAPA's stuff) Use just enough for coverage; I did both sides, completely sealing the shield in bedliner material. I chose a cool day in the shade as I didn't want a lot of texture and a slower dry gives ya time to correct any mistakes especially if you do the back side first. In no time at all and for less than $10.00 you've got a unique (until everybody does it) bug screen and it didn't take all day to get it done.
Did I take before and after pics? Crap no! Ya think I'm smart or sumthin?
I'm thinkin' of doin' this to my running boards too .... they get REAL slippery when there is the slightest bit of oil on yer boots.
Good idea. If might have to try that on my nerfs. Last week I slipped on the nerf getting out of the truck during a rain storm and fell hitting my elbow against the door latch before hitting the pavement. My elbow is still swollen and my wife hasn't stopped laughing at me yet.
I have thought about putting the stuff on the nerf inserts as well, but wasn't sure how well it would look or stick after use. Guess in the end, a person could always recoat.
When i cut the hole in my bed to install my stacks, i brushed in a Herculiner bedliner. We have it on all of our trucks, a 20' enclosed trailer and 34' enclosed trailer's floors. I don't use my truck bed much at all, i had a pressure washer in it today. While i was at it i pulled off the running boards, Chrome. I taped them off, did the front and rear plastic insert covers, plus two on each side of the steps. Of course my side only gets used, and without them i probably couldn't get in my truck. It holds up pretty well for virtually no surface prep, just washing them. I took a few pics, but im not sure where they are. Let me go look and see if i can come up with a pic of them.
Clear coat? Slippery stuff? I've slipped on that step once in wet weather and twisted my ankle on my plummet to the ground. Thats all i need to find out I wanted something with some grippyness.
I asked the Line-X guy about doing my tubes and bumpers this last summer and he told me they couldn't do it because of the chrome. Now Kris is saying he did his tubes with a role on version. Oh, boy I think I'll find a different Line-X guy to ask.
Not to hijack the post, but I have a Rhino lining in the bed. It is a TX truck originally with the Rhino lining plackard from there. I have a few chips now down to the bed. Will a Rhino dealer fix this under the lifetime warranty?
