my 1990 302 was leaking anti freeze into oil from busted head gasket. i replaced all gaskets and installed new oil pump and replaced rod bearings. before i did all this work my oil pressure was normal until it heated up in neutral. once at operating pressure it would drop into red. after all the work i did now the oil pressure is good even after it heats up.
1 Now though when the car is at operating temp, if i put it in gear the oil pressure drops to zero instantly. if i put it in neutral or park or accel it goes back to regular oil pressure.
2 when its in gear and i step on the brake and accel i feel a vibration from beneath me. i only did this with the brake cause i was in my driveway but i feel it would act the same had i been driving on the road. if its in neutral or park there is no vibration when i accel. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated thanks

they got them fo lik 6 at autozone and probly other auto stores. does yours have a threaded rod at the top that holds one wire with a nut? if so dont do what i did and tighten the little nut too tight; it broke the whole thing in two pieces and i reinstalled the old one. im buying a new one tomorrow
just bought two different ones (gauge and light) neither worked the gauge one worked better than the other. but same prob overall. bottom line i hav an electric issue which ill take ov er the low oil pressure. after the needle starts going low if i turn my lights on it goes way down dido turn wheel dido put in gear. so im just ignoring that gauge all together and will down the road put in a mech oil guage. oh yeah mine has one wire too. ands my oil gauge is the kind that spells normal
I would check the grounds. Especially the one between the firewall and the engine. Easy to overlook that one cause it tends to hang down out of sight when diconnected from the engine. I left that one off after a valve job on a Vega many years ago. It was a bad bad thing, but the fire went out as soon as the engine died.

funny u say that cause the one you speak of is still in place but i did brake the circle connector that attaches to one of the valve bolt. i just arrached it to the end of a bolt that sticks out from the firewall naybe it should be attacked back to the engine. think that could cas some disturbances?
Doesn't matter what kind of connector you have on the end of the wire, as long as you have a good electrical connection. No corrosion and tight. A bad ground can cause a multitude of problems and you can go nuts chasing them.
When you said turning on the lights made the oil pressure drop, I thought of grounding problems. The oil pressure gauge is not really a pressure gauge, it is just an electical meter showing off or on. If you have the E4od tranny, it is all controled elecrically also, might be the funny vibration when it goes in gear. I'm just guessing, but sure makes sense to me.
