Check your reley for the lights. As far as the engine goes try this.... First check all wireing sensors and acuators including the ignition system, but make sure the battery and alternator are putting out correct Voltage and Amps before any test. Use a good Digital Multi Meter for this, with at least 10Meg Ohm's of Impedence. Any thing else will let the smoke out of the ECU. A good amp test is to disable the fuel or spark then then clamp an amp probe around the starter battery cable and turn it over. If the amps are correct to specs then your battery is good. If a bad reading comes up than do a voltage drop on the same cable to check for high resistance.... OK back to wiring, do a wiggle test with all connections.(wiggle connections with everything on including engine and look for sparks or bad behavior of the loads). If any are found then check that circuit for the problem. ECU's rarely go bad, so try not to blame it for problems, also check its connection with a wiggle test. Let me know.
rebo. i will get the TFI where is it in the engine bay? (still no manual yet) as for the wiring ive called an auto elctrician who is coimg over at 6pm tonite on a sturday to have a look. hoping he can sort it. hes confident anyway.
where is the relay for the lights DF? would that be the hidden relay on the back of the fuseboard when unscrewed?
should know if there are any problems within the next 2 hours with a little luck.
I think the reley is on the right side of engine compartment between the air box and fender. Haynes or Chilton has good wiring diagrams for the B2. Can you get them shiped to you?
Your E-bay link shows the correct type of module. I'm not certain if all TFI modules are interchangable or not. ???Anyone know this for sure???
I seem to have missed some info. Is your lighting problem headlights only, all lights or some/most?
AL.
its a weird one AL. i have day lights front and rear but try to turn on the dipped or main beam and nothing. have had a tester on it and we suspected the switch but ive replaced that now and still the same. an auto electrician was supposed to come over last night but crashed his van outside my house, and with all the commotion you cant blame him for not wanting to get the B2 fixed. he's resheduled for today. fingers crossed he can sort it out.
need a positive on the TFI now so i can replace it.
Your TFI module should be located on the side of the distributor housing. It is
fastened by two screws . I have heard about using a thin walled 7/32 in socket
to remove them. The module on your Ebay link should be the correct one. Don't
forget to use the heat sink grease on the mating surfaces, after cleaning well
beforehand. What brand of manual did you order? It might be best to wait until
you get it.
Check for power on the Black/Orange wire.
Going out should be the Red/Yellow wire. This goes to the dimmer switch
Of course you need to closely inspect the plug around these 2 wires for signs of heat/burning.

thanks AL i checked a lot of the wiring myself as the elctrician is realy messing me about now... looks like my problem is the connector block that sits next to the wiper washer bottle. its gunked up badly and shwing no power when there should be power. the problem here is that the fog lights are not a standard american thing. we have to have them fitted by law when these cars first arrive in the UK, so someones done some dodgy wiring and thats the brunt of the problem..
oh can anyone explain about heat sink grease? what is its purpose? sounds like something i should know about. its not the same grease we use on wheel bearings is it?
Heat sink or heat dissipative dielectric grease is a white material for electronic parts
that fills in surface imperfections on surfaces where heat generating components are
mounted. you can find it at electronic stores. it is not lubricating grease.
