I am modifying a hanging pedal with stock brake pedal; does anyone know pitch and size of brake pedal assembly for 1950 F1 ? I have tried standard 1/2" coarse and fine but neither seem to mesh.
Tom, a ¼” pipe thread is in fact the same pitch as the stock pedal which is 18 threads per inch, but is too big on the diameter. A ¼ “pipe thread diameter will be too big by about 1/32”. A ¼”straight pipe tap measures about .530”, a taper pipe tap is worse it starts out a about .500” but about 2/3rd the way up the tap it is at or over .530”.
I checked one of my pedals for my 50 F-1 and found it to be ½” – 18 UNS (I made my own pedals to fit the stock assemblies). Most of us use to UNC – course, UNF- fine, UNS is a screw thread. My machinist hand book 32nd Edition list at least 10 different ½” thread pitches. If you are making the arm you should be able to get a ½”-18 tap at a cutting tool supply house. Hope this helps, Mike.
