hey all, i got a little problem. i've known about this for a while, but one of my leaf packs in the rear (drivers side) is missing a 6-8 inch chunk of one leaf. the truck rides hard because it does need nnew shocks, but other then that the leaf isnt causing any problems. i would like to replace the leaf however, 200-300 bucks for ONE new 5 leaf pack on a 78 f100 custom is a little outragous. does anyone know any place i can get them cheaper or anything i can do to remedy this problem? thanks in advance.
by the way, my brakes arent leaking... the fluid is staying i in the MC. me and my dad think it must have self bled becuase we never bled it and now the brakes work even better
You can go to a junkyard and get a used set of F150 leafs. I got a set for my F100 from a 86 F150, and it lifted it alittle and increased my load rating also, oh I got them for $35 too. If you don't want them to lift the rear of your truck, then take a middle leaf out and you should be good to go.
Sounds steep for the price of springs, where are you located? It's been a few years since I had to buy new ones but I was thinking I only had $400 in the set, and they were beefed up a bit.
I belive... springs off a 78-96 150, 250, 350 are all 3" wide and the same length. So a junk yard search would be pretty easy, just be sure to check the leafs over well so you don't end up with another busted one.
You can build almost any spring you want by getting another set from the scrapyard and mixing the two sets. Match them as close as you can. Never just replace ONE leaf spring pack.
Another option is going to a spring shop and get a replacement (leafs or set). They do springs for trailers, cars, trucks, etc. Prices are usually reasonable and NEW.
thanks guys, i think ill probably look into a junk yard or too up here. there was one with a 4x4 late 80s early 90s f150. maybe ill rip the springs off of it. think theylly work? mines only 2wd though
What year is you 350? The highboy's (77 1/2 and earlier 250/350's) had 2 1/4" or 1/2" springs (don't remeber which without measuring).
Mine is a '76 2wd cab/chassis with dual wheels. The springs have 10 leafs plus another 4 in the "helper" pack for a total of 14 leafs, and are 2.25" wide.
