Spare Tire Carrier hardware
I have the I-bolt, J-bolt and the carrier. What's the OEM method to mount these to the frame? Some form of threaded clip on fastener to the frame from what I heard?
BTW I found the I & J bolts in dealer stock via another dealer's parts locator. If anyone wants to know where the other few remaining OEM parts are just let me know. I still have the list. There are about 4 J-bolts and 4 I-bolts in the US remaining.

On my 73 I finally got a tire carrier off ebay. I used to pieces of threaded rod to mount it. But i was looking at an 80s ford at work that had the j-hook type fastener and there was a large clip holding it on. Probably can find in junkyard or ask dealer about clip for a newer pickup. It might work for you. I'm going to look into it eventually.

I've thought of lock washers and 1/2" starbolt but that's too easy. Welding it is a great idea. My thought is that there was a way to loosen this along side the road w/out having to get out your socket set and that is what I'm in search of. Was it one of those threaded body clips that sort of snap on to the frame rails? It's taken me 3 years to compile this stuff and all I'm in need of are the correct fasteners.

The original one was a snap on clip with a 1/2" captive nut. With a little rust the spring clip twisted and didn't work anyway, -just when needed on the side of the road. That is why I went with the nut welded to a 1/8x1.5x4" plate but that would not work on a 100% "restoration".
If you do go with a welded nut remember to remove the zinc plating b4 welding.

Mine was the standard one and does not look anything like the diagram. I have only seen a very few slide-out units over the years. My carrier is opposite that one also. The threaded rod/bolt is towards the rear on the right/passenger side framerail. I guess the "release point" is the same tho.

I didn't mention the In-Box carrier because it isn't considered in the topic of the thread.
Check out the last 3 pics in here for any differences.

Mine (78 F250 2WD) looks like this one but it is not a slide out. The bolts are diagonal to each other also:
