James,
You probably already double-checked but are you sure about the letters YLP? Any chance they are obscured by crud or damaged and hard to read? The codes I have on my lists for 54/55 are:
*tsseypnnnnn*
where the different fields are
t ss e y p nnnnn
t - Truck Type (F type in your case)
------------------
B = school bus
C = cab forward
F = standard
P = parcel delivery
T = tandem axle
ss - Truck Series (10 for an F-100 in your case)
------------------
10 = 100 series
25 = 250 series
35 = 350 series
50 = 500 series
60 = 600 series
70 = 700 series
75 = 750 series
80 = 800 series
90 = 900 series
e - Engine Code (only 1954/1955 codes are shown here)
---------------
D = 223 CID 6-cylinder
V = 239 CID 8-cylinder
Z = 256 CID 8-cylinder
J = 279 CID 8-cylinder
K = 317 CID 8-cylinder
y - Model Year Code (your 1954 should have a 4 in this location)
---------------
3 = 1953
4 = 1954
5 = 1955
6 = 1956
p - Plant Code (only 1954/1955 codes are shown here)
---------------
A = Atlanta
B = Buffalo
C = Chester
D = Dallas
E = Edgewater
F = Dearborn
G = Chicago
H = Detroit Truck
K = Kansas City
L = Long Beach
M = Memphis
N = Norfolk
P = St. Paul
R = Richmond
S = Somerville
U = Louisville
nnnnn - Production Unit Number
Doubt this helps much but I had to use a 10X magnifier and a pencil rubbing to finally read my rating plate since it was badly corroded. Good luck! :-)

Whoa! Those numbers don't even seem to match the fields in a typical US rating plate. The normal fields on the rating plate are:
Serial Number
Max GVW (lbs)
Wheelbase (inches)
HP Rating
HP Rating RPM
Transmission Type
Rear Axle Ratio
Color Code
Production Code
Does your rating plate have those fields listed in the black paint above the stamped numbers?
A wild a$$ guess at a couple of 'em might be:
Max GVW (lbs) 4450
Wheelbase (inches) 115
HP Rating 157 @ 4000 RPM
but I wouldn't bet even a doughnut on that.
Does the rating plate look original? Was the truck a foriegn production unit with a different rating plate coding system? I'd love to hear from some of the experts on the forum who might be able to solve your mystery. Sorry I can't help.
