Growling Ranger
First post.
I Just bought a 2004 Ranger XLT 2x4 5-Speed a month ago (last truck was an 87 Ranger XLT 4x4 auto).
It runs like a top and drives like a dream.
When accelerating hard from a stop though, it makes a brief, low, growling noise from the rear end that ends around 10-15 MPH. This doesn't occur under normal acceleration. It sounds cool and doesn't make any vibration, but should I have it checked? My old Ranger didn't do that but it was an automatic.
Any advice?
Thanks,
Jimmy.
Kinda sounds like maybe a thrust bearing or thrust washer, problem, but I'll bet their drive line Tech would know right away.
Do you have a limited slip differential????
Let us know what's found.
I looked at the door panel and saw stats for axel weights, wheel size etc...
not sure what I'm looking for to find gear ratios.
I work 65 hours a week and it's like -18 wind chill here now and I was looking in the dark, but didn't see anything that looked like a gear ratio on the door sticker.
Will look again soon when I get a day off and see daylight again.
once again,
Thanks y'all.
