Anybody know of a place to get an aftermarket water neck for the 351M/400 with the same angle as the original but without the threaded holes in either aluminum or chromed steel?
The engine is just about ready to drop in. Still trying to decide whether to follow Sanderson's claim regarding the hugger headers not requiring exhaust manifold gaskets or whether to use copper gaskets despite their claim.
I'm also considering removing the inner springs on the CHI heads you supplied for the initial cam break in unless you say otherwise. Please say otherwise.
Yes it is worth the time to pull the inner springs out for breakin. Also it is not a bad idea to run with a gasket. Heat from the manifold transfers much better. The copper probably not all that bad either.
Thanks. I will pull the inner springs for the initial cam break in and go with the copper gaskets as well. I just hope that the Ford Gods don't strike me down for painting the block satin black and not Ford blue .
I got a cromed water neck from summit racing for my 400.
Not the original angle or height though.Had to put a flex hose on.
Was nice to get rid of that big water neck
I noticed the low rise vertical water neck for the 351M/400 at Summit Racing, but was hoping to retain the original formed upper radiator hose. Still may be the route I go, however, if there's nothing better in the aftermarket.
I have the Ford Racing chrome one, I don't like it at all. The sealing area isn't big enough to seal to the block (it uses an o-ring). I'll be putting the stocker back on.
Phillip,
I'm running a set of Sanderson's on my truck/400 with just the provided copper plate/adapter they sent me. Works like a champ. I used to live in Layton, should be able to find a water neck in a salvage yard. Mine is alum. so I,m carefull with the torque. I plan to polish mine this winter.
