97 Expedition PCM Replacement

97 Expedition PCM Replacement
Can I do this myself or does the new unit need to be reprogrammed by the dealer? Bad time of year to have this go out so if I can save $400+ that would make it much easier on Santa.

As long as the vehicle doesn't have the transponder type keys(dunno if '97 Expy's had them)-it's an easy swap that takes about 10 minutes.
If you've got transponder keys...then you're pretty much screwed and the dealer has to do it.

Is that
Transponder key the one with the chip in it? Our keys have some thing inserted in the handle portion of the key...looks like a chip.

Yep,that'd be a transponder key....

Transponder keys have the big, ugly head. There's nothing special about the shank of the key.

Do you still need a PCM? I have one brand new one. It would still need to be flash.
