First I would like to say I think we have a great group of people here. We may not be the biggest chapter on FTE but I think we are the best. Now onto the business.
We need to start trying to keep threads on topic. With the number of people we have posting now it doesn't take long for threads to spin off topic and lose what purpose it was intended for. I'm not trying to accuse anyone. I'm guilty of doing it myself. You usually can get a pretty good feel from the first post of a thread what the person is trying to do. If the starter of the thread is looking to have fun then have at it and post like crazy, but if they are trying to keep it serious make sure your post is inline with the topic.
I think the way we carry on sometimes may be keeping some members and new members from joining in on the fun. I still want everyone to keep posting and to have fun, but lets try and make it a great place for everyone. Use of the " for stirrin only thread" is great for giving each other a bunch of trouble without cluttering up other threads ( thanks codyjoe). Don't be afraid to start a new thread to have a little fun too.
Like I said we have a great group of people here. Let's keep moving forward and keep growing. Most of all let's keep having fun and enjoying everyone's company.
If you have any ideas, suggestions, or thoughts on anything feel free to post them or send me a pm. I may be the leader of the chapter but this is our chapter and everyone has a right to be able to enjoy it and state their opinion.
I have no issue with having some fun and all, but it doesn't need to be carried into every thread, and frankly, it has gotten a bit annoying... if I want to see that kind of bickering and one upmanship, I'll just hang out with the inlaws...
Well, I guess I need to ask for forgiveness up front then lol... I KNOW I have a hard time staying on topic, but an even HARDER time staying serious... but you are right. sometimes there are things that need to stay the course. And when I buckle down and apply myself (echoes of my teachers, lol) I actually can accomplish something!
Chiding is all well and good... but when it crosses over from one thread into another (post wars, red pumps, 2x4s, duct tape.... you name it) it can be annoying to existing users and intimidating to newcomers who have NO CLUE as to what those terms might mean without going back and reading the countless posts regarding them.
I will TRY... and I DO mean TRY... to control myself, but the voices sometimes take over....
No need to apologize. Interesting people make for an interesting chapter. We just need to make sure we keep certain threads on topic and have fun in threads that are started for that purpose.
mrfixit pretty much nailed when he said this:
"but when it crosses over from one thread into another (post wars, red pumps, 2x4s, duct tape.... you name it) it can be annoying to existing users and intimidating to newcomers who have NO CLUE as to what those terms might mean without going back and reading the countless posts regarding them."
If new members have no idea what we are talking about they will never join in on the fun.
You'd think we were in the NW chapter or something... they are quite popular, and have fun as well, but even they can hold it out of a few threads... Go ahead and have fun, just try to keep it contained a little... like slmann stated, new users may be scratching their heads trying to figure this stuff out, or are afraid it may come their way, or their thread get taken over... I have been nice through all of this and kept quiet and let the children play, just try to remember the play isn't allowed in every room, children...
Don't take it wrong, I have no issue with all of that, if it is what you want to do and enjoy it, just isn't for me. I'm sure I'm not alone in that feeling. That's what the stirrin thread and others like it are for, so go right ahead and have at it in there, no problems with that. Feel free to start new ones too, that isn't an issue either, just try to not carry it all over..
For the record, I would say you got a bit lucky on the post count derby, as I have seen admin jump on threads for that kind of usage, due to bandwidth problems... just letting you know so you are warned, but it has slowed down, and I doubt they are going to do anything about it. Not sure if that was why Rob checked in, or if he was just posting as himself...

I have no problem with that thread. Just stating that up front, even though I didn't read it. I am actually surprised it was not shut down though.
A forum that I am a mod on simply turned off the post count in forums that are not tech related. They dumped several entire threads and slashed some of the others.
They threatened to turn off all post counts if that sort of thing got out of hand in the tech threads. They never had to and we all still rib each other pretty badly, but we keep it in check.
I have no problem with it either, just was kind of stating the same thing you do about the other forum. It has happened here too, it would seem they let it be here. The old "pig pen" forum and the general non auto forum have had threads like that, and they usually get shut down.
