Best Paint Option?

I know we all have our personal preference about which paint looks the best, but so far as quality and durability are concerned, which paint option is the best?

Example: will one paint color resist chipping, scratching, and flaking, more than another will?

I do realize that certain paint colors will show damage more than others, and I will consider that when picking out a truck.
What I am specifically looking for is if anyone has any experience/feedback with how these paints hold up when subjected to wear and tear (normal or not!).

Thanks

P.S. I already know to stay away from the white sand paint if I'm going to go offroad!

With modern finishes, most of the paints stand up very well regardless of the color. Light colors do better than dark colors because they don't get as hot in the sun. Dark colors are harder to keep clean and show scratches much easier. According to my brother who runs a body shop, avoid the light brown and tan metallics because they are difficult if not impossible to match should you need paintwork. When I test drove my truck, I drove it by and asked him if he had any problem matching the color of my truck.

Well, I don't think the color makes a difference on how well it holds up.

no different on how it holds up... big difference on how much it shows. And like what was said.. silvers, tan metalics and some others are hard to match if you bend a fender.

My last truck was a dark green metallic. It was easy to clean and did well on not showing scratches.

i think the white looks great, and swirls and scratches are not as apparent, imo

i like black the best, but it will show water spots, dust, and scratches! and yep, it can get very hot--keep it waxed, but don't overdo it

fwiw, we have a black mustang gt and a black f150, and so far, i'm impressed with the quality of the paint and clearcoat in terms of being able to get out light scratches and swirls without a powered buffer

i do however have some minor 'pinstriping' from my last hunting trip that i haven't gotten to yet--hopefully it will come out like previous

I've got a white (Oxford White) truck right now and it actually stays pretty clean looking until I get into the mud. The best color I've had so far was silver. It can be a pain to match when doing a repair job, but for looking clean, was my favorite to date.

Mine always seems to get dirty a day or two after I wash it.

I've got silver and my body shop brother said it is not hard to match. I also like white but every commercial work truck on the road is painted white and that turned me off. Our state highway department went from their traditional yellow to white a couple of years ago so they could order a standard color and get more when they sold them at auction.

I am new to the forum but I have the Arizona Beige on my 04 lariat and it looks perfect still and I have almost 100K miles (it is my work truck). I scraped a 30in. metal pole that was on the edge of someones driveway at night with my metallic silver ML430 and it just peeled the paint, no dent. Once the body shop had the color, they repainted the entire door, and it is impossible to tell the difference (its been over a year now, still cant tell). I know that if a truck has faded then it might be hard to match, but they are factory colors.... if baked on, our trucks are not old enough to have too much of a fade issue.

____________

big misconception here... auto paint is not heat activated. When a body shop advertises baked on finishes, they are blowing smoke. They bake it to get more paint jobs done faster. Heat kills the paint. It takes shine off, and takes some life away. It is far better to air dry. And after painting kenworth trucks for 8 years, I can say for a fact that any metalic is hard to match because of the differences in paint equipment. It is hard to make the metalic lay exactly the same way as was spryed the first time.

Ive thought about getting a white truck but even though white is nice as it doesnt show dust as easily as a darker color,You usually notice rust spots on white before you see it on a darker color.

So i guess it comes down to do you want to wash more often or see noticeable rust sooner..
