The search is still down, so I am creating a new topic. I recently upgraded my stock headlight bulbs to Silverstars, while they are brighter than the stock, I have read that they are not so great in the rain.
So is there any recommended bulb I can use in my fog lights that will work well in the rain? At the moment I have the stock bulbs, and they light up a decent area low down near the front of the truck which has been helpful driving in the rain in the past. Just wondering if there is an option I can use to compliment the silverstars for driving in the rain. I don't really use the fog lights that much (oddly enough only really in the fog, and occasionally in the rain unlike most drivers around here!!)
I would prefer not to spend a fortune on bulbs either, just looking for something that might work a little better than the stock and help in the rain.
Why not use Silverstars? The only ones that are bad in the rain, are the ones with the blue tint on the bulb. I've heard that the clear ones are much, much better.
Thanks for both the replies, IIRC the Silverstars I have in the headlights are the clear one's so hopefully they will be Ok in the rain (not driven too much in the rain since I fitted them). I will look into the clear Silverstar foglight bulbs and see how they turn out.
The Sylvania Silverstars do have a blue coating (though lighter than some other blue bulbs). The Osram Sylverstars don't (but they aren't sold in stores here, they are a european bulb). You most likely have the Sylvania variety.
Seeing the rain drops, yes, not a problem. After it stops raining and you are driving ion the wet though, I must disagree. They practically disappear.
You can mod a 9006 (higher wattage) bulb to fit in place of the 9145 OE bulb, just need to file down some tabs. The site I have with instruction is down at the moment, but if you are halfway decent at problem solving you can give a look and figure it out easily enough. 9005 is also possible, but probably not best for your intended useage. If you don't like them, going back to the 9145's is still possible.
The 9006 is higher wattage, so you do take a small chance of burning thins up (harness: doubtful, lens:doubtful, especially if they will mostly be used in the wet).
They do make aftermarket 9145 bulbs, but I would personally feel more comfortable with a well known brand in a 9006.
Or you could get some better aftermarket fogs. hard to justify when you already have some

I thought the Sylvania Xtravision's were clear, and didnt have the blue tint?

I think I have seen something about the mod to the 9006 bulb, is it the one where it has 3 tabs and you file/remove one of the tabs? I might give this a try and keep my original bulbs in case I decide I don't like the appearance.
