I have a 1986 F150 with a 302 fuel injected engine. When I got it engine ran good with out a muffler, I had to put one on and thats when everything went to hell. the idle increased to 3000rpms, took the muffuler off rpms only dropped
to 2000. Reset the timing and now the engine wont start. Can anyone tell me what to do? I have put new plugs and wires and have rechecked them to be sure that they are in proper order.
The EFI engine (302) has a computer, WHENEVER you do ANY kind of modification(s) that involves the engine running, you have to "REBOOT" the computer for it to make the necessary readjustments from the electronic sensors. The muffer pipe has (supposed to) had a O2 sensor that senses the amount of oxygen the engine is expelling and the computer takes that and with the other sensors (Knock, EGR,TPS,Temp,Oil pressure sensors just to name a few..(more than those))
So basically you moved the most important aspect of everything...the distributor. Now its way out of adjustment...and you'll have to get a timing light and a Automotive book to reset the timing back and after all that you done is put back to where it was....reboot the computer, (Disconnect the battery for 30 min and drive it normally for 10 miles and let the computer "listen" to the other sensors telling it if there is any other problems you nees to fix before it'll run right.) Don't adjust the RPM at the throttle body, its not adjustable even tho it has a screw....there is a certain way to adjust it and right now you need to fix the other problems first.
yes i did but still no help, now i cant get it to start at all its turn over great .
it acts like it going to start but it dont catch. when it stops raining i will try again . it at that point i will decide weather to drive it off a cliff or not lol
