if i take a 302 and drop it in the frame of a 88 bronco 2 will the tranny bolt up. i am not worried about how long the tranny will or wont live i just want to know if it will bolt up
drop the 302 in there and get yourself a c4 tranny and put her behind the 302. i heared that you will or will make the job easier if your get a 3 inch body lift. you will have to put a elctric fan in and cut some out your heater box
The C-5 was put in the 83 and 84 Ranger and the 84 BII. So your 88 would be an A4LD unless someone has changed it (not likely). The C-5 has a removable bell housing. You can remove the 2.8 (works for the 2.9 and 4.0 also) bell housing and use one from a case fill c-4 or c-5 to small block v-8.
If your auto tranny has overdrive it is an A4LD. As was said no Ranger based tranny will just bolt up to a SBF. A 83 or 84 Ranger or the 84 BII is as close as you can get. Care must be taken when change the bell housing on the case fill C-4/5 to keep the input shaft and pump seated to the rear or parts will fall out of alignment and the valve body will need to be removed to properly assemble.
upon futher inspection of the truck it has a build date of 11/84. is there a place i can go to decode the vin?? also with the new info what tranny do i have?
No need to go to all that trouble. Just look at your floor shifter. If it has 1 2 D it's a C-5. If it has 1 2 D then a white O for overdrive it's an A4LD.
