I'm looking to mount some rear tow hooks on my F250. I have the reverse aid sensor (God bless it), so an aftermarket bumper is out. I know enough not to use the tow ball as an anchor point, but was wondering about the use of a "D" hook on a tow hitch - is it safe? I would prefer something that would be permanently mounted over something I have to remember to put on; so the other thought I had was to drill the Ford OEM tow bar, and mount a "D" ring on each side. Any thoughts on whether that would compromise the strength of the tow bar??
What's everybody else (those that kept their stock bumpers) doing for rear tow hooks?
You should be able to find a d ring/clevis mounted to a 2 inch tube at just about any auto parts store. I just use the pintle hook thats always in my reciever but it locks closed unlike a ball mount. You could always make your own with a 8" section of 2" square stock and a clevis.
I would not drill the factory tow hitch.you could have something welded to it though.
or you could have another 2" reciever attachment made up to put in the reciever when the need arises.
This all depending what you think you might be pulling in a situation.
Make sure you chk the capacity of d-rings for your safety.

Thanks, Forty. I've been using the 3/4 inch clevis on the front (added to the tow hooks) or on the rear (ball removed) to control the fall of large trees around my place. But then, I've done some pretty stupid things in my day.
Man 'o man XHunter... is that Roadarmor bumper ever gorgeous... and more than perfect for what I want....but unfortunately out of my budget range right now...
I checked the Road armor web page for prices and they don't list the price for the rear bumper with the reverse aid sensors..... OR are you supposed to buy the regular one and drill your own holes for the sensors??? oh well, doesn't really matter - I can't afford either right now.
Has anyone hooked up or fabricated something permanent, while keeping the stock bumper??
If you really want Road Armor, look on ebay under that name. There is a company in CA I think that is selling their stuff at almost half the price. I guess it is a company that formerly made bumpers for Road Armor that now no longer does, but through some strange court action retained the right to produce and market them under the road armor name, only they set their own prices. Only catch is youwill hvae to paint it yourself.

No kidding, its gorgeous and out of my buget too!!! Not sure about the sensors, probly drill new holes and put factory sensors in.
I want at least the front one, no bar--just the bumper. My brother has it on his Ex, its awesome. He hit a deer at 30-35 mph and turned it into sausage, not a scratch on the Ex. I talked him into getting the bumper and now he is thanking me...
