Can anyone tell me roundabout height of a "stock" 49 or 50 F-1? I am seriously considering jumping into the fray with one of these, but I can only do it if I can fit her in my garage, which I believe is 6'5" high to the door bottom. My 05 F150 barely misses height wise, but it's width prevents it from fitting more than anything else. From what I've seen of these trucks, it looks like it will fit. I suppose I could remove the door and get a few more inches out of it, or at least find a way to retract the door further into the tracks. Thanks alot.
it all depends on what has been done to the truck... to alter the height...
wheel size, spring removal... different suspension...all alter it...even a little.
why, some folks have to nerve to jack them UP !!! go figure !
I have the stock specs on the 53-56 trucks and somewhere that I can't find I have a copy of the 48-52s... George will be along soon and Im sure he has a copy of the spec book... He's posted it before but I can't remember what the subject was for the thread...
be patient...someone will come around who actually knows something...
You guys rule! I'm mainly considering a stock truck, original front and rear ends, original rims, original steering rack, etc. I'm going to check the dimensions of my garage with the door "off", to see if I can do it. Inside the garage is fine, but the house is over 100 years old, and the doorways weren't exactly made for today's vehicles. Thanks for all your help. Hopefully you'll be seeing alot more of me as I get closer to my decision.
i had considered the air out trick, I'll just keep the compressor fired up when I want to take it out. Another question, is there a size difference between the 1/2 ton and the 3/4 ton? They look about the same size, maybe different lengths. I'm so psyched about this it's not even funny. My wife thinks I'm funny, until she sees it sitting in the garage (on flat tires :P )
I can definitely feel the pull, "You don't know the power of the classic truck!" (in a bad Darth Vader voice). The cookies are very tempting indeed. I'm aiming for late winter/early spring now, too much going on in the next 2 months. I'd really like to take a trip with my truck to pick up whatever it is I decide to get. As long as it's not in CA or WA, that's a bit far to travel.
You guys have already been a big help, now if only you could get my wife on the phone...
Um...er...we're going to have to draw the line on this one. If we were any good at "wives" we probably wouldn't spend so much time in the garage....
You could try the old stand by....
"....but honey, it was wandering around on the side of the road, it looked like it was lost and it nearly got hit several times.
It could have been killed. All I did was get it out of traffic but then it followed me home. We'll put up signs, maybe someone will call about it. Don't worry, I'll take care of it and I'll clean up after it too.
No, no, now don't worry about that, the neighbors won't mind at all......"
