speedometer swap
I've got a 95 ford f150 with the electronic speedometer/abs, my problem is the trucks rear axle was swapped out before i bought it and it has a rear end without the speedsensor/ring. I am going to swap the 5spd that's shot with an AOD trans(to avoid the hassle of changing to an electronic shift trans). Is there an adapter that i can plug my electric speedometer cable to and convert to a mechanical gear in the tranny?? Or I've considered swapping just the speedometer out of my gauge cluster with one from an 87-91 w/mechanical speed cable. they appear the same size and looks like it would work, but i've only looked at pictures and not actually side by side. Will either of these ideas work?? would not really look forward to buying a rear axle or even just the 3rd member from a junkyard(they want an arm and a leg for parts these days)

The path of least resistance is to put the correct axle back in there. To do otherwise would be a nightmare of hacking your dash apart. The older gauge clusters don't break apart like the newer ones do.
I would also suggest replacing the manual tranny with another one - otherwise you're going to have to do a lot more work, like changing driveshafts, crossmembers, etc.
