When I first start my truck in the morning it will puff a little cloud of blue smoke out. However when it gets warm it doesn't do it. Only when the temp is below 45 degrees. Any ideas on what it could be, someone mentioned the o-rings on the injectors?
Caused by insufficient fuel or oil consumption. Normal when engine is cold or idling for extended periods. Excessive smoke could be caused by air in the fuel, contaminated fuel, loose or plugged injectors, worn or leaking injector o-rings, thermostat stuck open, oil consumption, or plugged crankcase depression regulator valve. Also PCM inputs such as MAP or ICP sensors.
04 6.0L, 75,000 mile, turbo-back exhaust and cold air are the only mods. I just figured if it was o-rings it would do it everytime other than just cold starts.
Now that it is cold out a little blue/white smoke at startup is normal. It is just unburnt diesel fuel.
As for the A/M cold air intake, your best bet is to remove it and re-install the stock Donaldson system. The stock system flows more air than the 6.0 can use until you get to Extreme race mods. (more than a tuner & exhaust). Also the factory Donaldson system provides the best filtration of any system on the market. This has been proven many times by the guys who race these trucks.
A/M air intakes can and do lead to dusting of the turbo and engine, which will not be covered under your 100K engine warranty. In order for an A/M air intake to flow more air you have to make the holes bigger in the filtration media, thus letting more dirt through the filter and into the engine.
