I have a 99 f150 supercab 4x4 with a 5 speed. When i start out in first gear and torque on it, I get a repetitive clicking sound. The closest I could narrow it down to was the out put shaft of the transfer case. U-joints are good, any ideas?
I would have you check your u-joints on it again... i had the same problem... i would come off a corner or off of a stop light and i would hear lots of clicking for like .5-1 second and it would go away... only at hard take off's and i checked my u-joints and they seemed to be fine but i couldnt find anything else that would cause it... so ended up replacing the u joints and the sound went away... so it was the joints... ive noticed my truck eats u joints for breakfast and i have no idea why... kinda sucks buy oh well wouldnt trade my ford for anything. hope this helps
The noise is coming from the area of the output shaft of the transfer case. The front axle is engaged by vacum and the constant velosity shafts are engaged at all times. My front axle is for sure functioning properly. Thanks for the suggestion.
Well it was the U-joint! When I checked them they felt tight but I didnt give it a very good visual inspection. I should of looked at the oil seals on the u-joints. The one was bad. The needle bearings were basically gone. Thanks for everyones help.
