Alternator problem?

Hi all,
I just put a new battery in my 91 bronco (351). As soon as I did my voltage gauge now reads just below the N in normal in the truck, my red battery light is on in the dash and the gauge doesn't move when I fev the engine but it does drop when I turn on the heater blower.

I put a voltmeter on the battery terms and got a reading between 12 and 13 volts. Where do I check from here? (by the way the positive cable and terminals are all brand new) Thanks!

The alternator should be charging about 13.5- 14 volts.
You can take it off and have it checked by an autozone or parts house for free.

Try an auto electric place for rebuild parts before replacing it from a parts store. When the replacement is $130 +, I can rebuild them myself for about $60 and the only thing re-used is the windings, case, rotor, and pulley.
