Alrighty.. so the front axles in my 97 ranger (4x4) is shot, i cant get stock replacements so any ideas after market ect?? i've called around so far no luck, i wouldnt mind a heavy duty 4x4 off road axles or diffs... but i up for suggestion
Why can't you get stock replacements? I'm sure there are plenty in junkyards if you're willing to look. I'd say you're probably looking at buying a part and building around it if you choose to go aftermarket. Either way, it's going to get very pricey very fast.
I looked it up on Middleton's online database (a local yard here) and while it didn't list any in inventory, they could often have something if they get up and look better. Probably Dana 35 3.27, but could be 3.73 (if it's 4.0L) and check for front wheel abs. Ford also had a Dana 28 within a Dana 35 housing, but that was stupid. Get the beefier unit. I think they pretty much quit using 28's by 1990 anyway.

i'd pay the price for awesome 4x4 axles hahahaha they dont call it the Weekend Warrior for nothing...ford doesnt have stock new..i do have a lead on some used...oh well thanks guys!
Hey used should be just fine with these burly little trucks! Esp since they shouldn't get much use for most Rangers. Not full-time 4-wheel. Should be plenty of mint axles around.
If it's not tough enough, there are mods to fix the c-clip tendency to bind off-roading inside the Dana axles. There are good articels here along the top of any FTE page under tech and others. From what I've read, I'd be surprised if that wasn't the cause of you needing a new one. The engineers must not have tortured them off-road much back then.
