I have a 1992 f250 custom with a 7.3L International engine in it. It is at about 400,000 kms and I am going to need a new one sometime soon. Just curious if it would be best to stick with another international engine, or try and convert to a powerstroke. and if there is a large price difference in doing so?
Too many electrics required to convert to a powerjoke would need whole truck harness, computers etc, etc, and very expensive, better off to buy a good used truck 95 up if thats what you want (over to the dark side). Most here on this forum would put in another international IDI if the rest of your truck is in good shape an you like it, 400 K KM is a lot of miles. Good wrecking yard motor may be economical. Rebuilding a 7.3 requires sleaving, not popular amoungst the guru's here, but if thats what you have, find a knowledgable shop that will guarantee the work.
bigT 2121,
Welcome to FTE and the IDI diesel forum.
Installing a Power Stroke will require a lot of wiring and parts that you would have to get other than the motor.
It could be done, but you would need to buy a donor truck to get all the parts at a reasonable cost. You will also be spending lots of time swapping everything.
Example,
Throttle on the IDI is a cable, on the Power Stroke it is electrical, so you need to swap throttle pedals.
