Do I Need This Steering Component?

Hey guys....do I need this Weird Item?
I was in search of the solution to my "Death Wobble" problem and found a problem joint at the sector shaft arm to steering drag link.
I replaced the steering drag link with a new Moog unit, which appears to be identical except has a taper where this Weird Item attached to it.
Now the Weird Item can't really clamp down to the drag link like it originally did.
The Weird Item has an arm that is supposed to engage the adjusting sleeve at the passenger side tie-rod end.
I suppose this is a safety item for keeping the adjusting sleeve from turning. However the drivers side adjusting sleeve doesn't have one.
So why would Moog have designed a replacement that didn't match the original?
Anybody know what I should do here?
Joe

I would say yes. It is basically a jamb nut to keep the steering in place, all tie rods should have them.

What's odd is that the drivers side tie-rod doesn't have one.

The drag link is really long, so the weird one is a nessecity on the drag link. Ford may have been able to save $1 per truck by only installing one.

ahhh, just unblot everything and throw it all away. you done need any of that stuff.lol.

sorry, but really, what reax said is exactly true. on my dodge, it came with them on all the rod adjusters. that little arm slides in between the clamp which makes the adjuster not able to turn in case the blots come loose. its just an added piece for safety.

ooooooo, now i see what you are talking about. you could do that or you might just see if it will crush when you tighten the bolt up. but the piece of tube sounds like a better idea..

Jason over in the F250 forum came up with the idea to put it on the tie-rod, rather than on the drag link......great idea!
