You will find a lot of snake oil in your parts store. If you want a good job, you should look around for a motorvac rep or get a can of sea foam. those are the only two products I have heard had repetitive success.
The problem is they break up old junk that is clogging up injectors, valves, seals, what ever. Sometimes the junk is preventing a bad seal from leaking, but no matter what the crud has to go somewhere. So if the cleaner doesn't flush from the top down and expell all of the crud it's just going to build up somewhere else.
