Follow the above link and select spec's for your engine. It'll tell you what yours should be.

Question

Actually the AWSF-22E's have been discontinued and superceded by the AGSF-22-WM. If you read through this thread, you'll know that AWS and AGS are physically the same.

That's also what some of the ebay merchants are stating http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-Motorcraft-spark-plugs-5-4-6-8-F-Series-E-Series_W0QQitemZ8040452326QQihZ019QQcategoryZ33693 QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem

So I went ahead and ordered another set of these new ones from RockAuto.com (couldn't resist not trying Iridium on + price slightly better than ebay). RockAuto incidentally is showing the replacement plugs discontinued. I'll have a close look at the changes when I get everything.

If your order showed discontinued they will most likely send you the replacement plugs (SP479) unless they have a few still on the shelf.
It doesn't matter how many threads are on the plugs-only 3-4 are on the cylinder head, and that's all that's gonna grab. You have always been able to buy Motorcraft plugs with full thread-they use the prefix of AGSF and not AWSF.Other than full thread-the AGSF and AWSF are identical if the remainder of the part number is the same.

I know where you can get the OEM Motorcraft platinum plugs for around $3 each everyday-plus good discounts on other F/L/M parts too.
Example:
My replacement OEM Ford fog lamps for the Naigator arrived today..
List price each was around $70-I paid $42 each.

aagitch,
I did a run on your engine using spec's from your sig i.e 2003 4.6L XLT and I came up with AGSF32PM meaning replacements for yours are now using platinum.

The same guy has them on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-Motorcraft-spark-plugs-4-6-Mustang-F-150-Explorer_W0QQitemZ250023743375QQihZ015QQcategoryZ3 3693QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem but you can do better at RockAuto with $2.60 a pop. http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/catalog.php?catalog=48&partnum=AGSF32PM&a=FR48-AGSF32PM

Now, can anyone tell why SP parts such as SP479 are labelled differently than AGSF's? They're both branded motorcraft parts but what about who and where each is made.

Motorcraft are good as well, but for impressive low temperature firing end, I would go for the NGK spark plugs.

That's ford's new parts numbering system for spark plugs.
The made several old numbers obsolete(AGSF-12C is one of them),and cleaned up the parts bin a bit so they could make the parts easier to find and sell. You can still find them using the old parts numbers-the plugs are still marked this was..the new numbering only refers to the outer packaging now,and the quantities that they're packed in.

Fitz,

I actually already recently replaced my plugs with the SP493 which are also platinum just newer part number. Motorcraft shows these as an available plug for 4.6 "w" eng code. I paid 2.29 per plug which was well worth it compared to the "bending over" you get from the dealer for labor. Although I did say just about every cuss word known to man.

Thanks for explaining why my sp493's ( on the outer packaging) still had the AG number on the plug. Makes sense!

Id like to shoot the enginner that designed the fuel rail right abo=ve all the plugs(at least on the 5.4L)

Based on my experiences with engines on/in cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats and garden tools, I stick with the exact spark plug that the vehicle manufacturer installed unless there is superseded spark plug. It is the most cost effective solution and they usually work the best.
