[updated:LAST EDITED ON 25-Apr-02 AT 09:05 AM (EST)]You can get them here at motor haven for 6.50$ a friend ordered mine for me so im not shure where he got them. My problem is that i lost my instructions on the instalation the should work on your 48 and look cool.Im considering buying a 49 to restore myself and will have to order another set if i buy it.
You can get blue dots at most of the aftermarket suppliers and prices vary a bit. I found them in catalogs from Sacrmento Vintage Ford, Speedway, Hot Rod Custom Trucks, Bob Drake, Hot Rod & Custom Supply, etc.
In the words of Bob Drake - "All you need to do is drill a hole, install blue dot and twist tabs".
This is obviously easier if you're drilling a plastic lens. Most of those suppliers also carry replacement glass lens with the blue dot already installed. I got mine that way and keep the originals in the glove box for road trips (in case some over-zealous cop decides I can't run thru his state with the blue dots).
Thanks for the info i like the idea of having extra lenses in the glove box here in fla there not illeagal but we have a few cop's that think they should be
I never understood either i guess because of the purple apearence they give off and that red should should be the only color for tailights.Personaly i think those people are jealous cause we have them and they do,nt
There are three reasons why they are illegal in FL.
All lenses must be DOT approved and have a DOT number on them. Modifying them makes them illegal.
It is illegal for a tailight to emit any color other than red.
It is illegal for any vehicle to emit blue light except for law enforcement emergency vehicles.
Don't necessarily like it but that is the way it is. I don't know of anyone having recieved a citation for it. Most officers like modified, antiques, and street rods if they are operated properly.

Charles summed it up as I understand the situation. All states are different, but the latest hot-rod craze has politicians beginning to sway under pressure. Call/petition/pester your elected officials and get it repealed in your state!
We finally elected a state senator here from our county who is a car dealer and old car buff. He immediately introduced legislation to repeal the ban of blue dots on vintage cars. It was approved a couple years ago, so I can run legal here, but not all states are as progressive as we are - lol
I drove the '48 F1 complete with blue dots from Montana to Ohio and back last fall - thru 12 different states and didn't get pulled over once. Actually the lights tend to look purple at night - goes great with my dark amethyst pearl paint!
