DVD Audio ?

I have a 10 disc DVD changer waiting to go into my truck. I want to know if there is a way to burn a DVD to have CD type audio files, but have the disc in a DVD format so that I can take advantage of the 4.7 gb storage of the DVD. I am not going for super high audio quality, CD quality is fine, just looking for more storage on the Disk.

As far as I know this unit will not do MP3 CD. It is an older sony unit, circa 2003. It is a OEM unit designed for a landrover. My uncle in-law saved this unit from the trash and thought of me.

It will take a little work, but you can author DVD video with a still image and an audio track. There may be other ways, but I think you're going to need to author a video DVD to do it.

I always wondered in Nero, when you have a blank DVD in the drive it says something like 500 minutes free. Maybe I'll check to verify if it can or can't burn CDA.

I think the laser used to read to DVD's are different than CD. If you look at the dvd vs cd the tracks are layed much closer on the DVD than CD. I don't know if the focus of the laser is that much different or the speed the DVD spins in is, but if the player is not DVD ready, I highly doubt it will read the DVD.

I think all DVD players will read CD's. I believe he wants to put audio only onto a DVD.

To add to my first post, MP2 audio is usually acceptable audio format for DVD's, in most players, which means MP3 quantity on a DVD. You may be limited to 100 tracks or something, YOu'll have to look into the DVD standard and your authoring program. What you could do is author say 30 albums as their own video clip and each song, a chapter, with it's own image, saying what the song is.

Ok, I didn't read it was a dvd changer. If you find the a way to burn the CDA format on a DVD disc it should work.

I am in the market for DVD authoring program right now, so possibly that will solve the issue. My wife wants a DVD slideshow, so I am probably going with ulead software. Anyone have an opinions on this type of software?

I have record now that came with my sony. When I use DVD shrink to create an ISO, I can burn that file using record now to make 4.7gb video DVD's. I had not thought about authoring a DVD before, so possibly that will work. I'll see what happens with the software that I have now.

Thanks for the feedback, if anyone has any further info, please let me know.

I've done it with Maestro. Keep in mind that your audio tracks will have to be 48Khz, 16 bit, stereo; since most CD audio and mp3's are 44.1 Khz, they'll have to be resampled. Use either PCM or MP2 and I'd go no less than 224 kbps. if you want an mp2 compressor, it shouldn't be hard to find; try Doom9.org or dvdrhelp.com. Might also want to test your changer to see if it accpets the DVD with mp2 audio.
