Thanks for the help i will try with tme when i get ready to order them still not completely sure wich direction this truck is goin got to many motors layin around to pic from.

have you found 5/16 pushrods? I didn't. So your using stud rockers? Pedestal doesn't need guide plates and they would have to be machined in.
Crane sells a kit with guide plates but- you need the 5/16 pushrods...maybe thats what your planning? I almost went that way but decided against it as it would be the weak link i didnt want.
The heads I have are D0AE-J 2V cleveland heads that are set up with 7/16 studs and guide plates, just looking at all the options for my tired old 79. I have a 351C that i built a few years back and i was thinking about just swapping the heads out on to my 400 thats in the truck but am also considering an engine swap just trying to figure out what i want to do and have a motor ready by spring. I was thinking rebuild a 400, swap in that cleveland (after recamming it) or a 428 I have had for a while that has just been beggin for a home other than the garge floor. Not really sure where this is goin yet just trying to get every thing figured out by spring. Thanks for the help.

If the heads need rebuilt I'd be tempted to get different heads- the stud route is a pain. If you were to search the forum for builds you'd find some great options for turning your 400 into a torque monster with better than stock mileage.
Then it's worth the effort i reckon. I did the same with 289 hp heads on a windsor- pain to find the right stuff- From what I understand you will need to get them to a machine shop and have them machined for guides. What are you using for rocker arms? Pistons?
As far as pistons you can basically choose from stock, badger flattop and TMI's. TMI is my choice for a bigger cam but if you want a low end torque and mileage build you might be better off with badgers- or if you want to build a dog- go back to stock. I know you didn't ask for any of this info but i felt like typing i guess.
The 400 build i had in mind was going to be a zero deck motor with the 30cc dish pistons from TMI the heads have been decked and the chambers are about 69.5ccs (guess i won't want stock length) now if memory serves me correctly and i figured that would put me close to 9:1 wich should run on cheap gas, I have an old holley street dominator intake that i might use be won't do too great down low so will probably go with the action plus weinad (sp), and a cran powermax cam .493 260 int and .524 276. (thats lift and duration). But I'm lookin real hard at goin with an FE 428 or building a 410 heard the 410s make great tourque with the long stroke.

umm you already have the 428, why down grade in displacement when you already have the 428? (m\it'll make the same torque-samecrank as a 410-but more hp potential, well kinda if the motor came with the good heads)
