get a auto engenuity or ease that will work on fords and your make of car. easy to use especially if you got a laptop. i use the ease. never tried it on another vehicle but i am sure it works.

I have seen some scanners at Napa and other auto parts stores, some stated, on the label or the "vehicles supported" section, that they work with diesels.
If the screen is blank, and the scanner batteries are good, I'm thinking the scanner doesn't work with diesels.
Get your money back, unless you need it for another vehicle.
Generally the diesel specific codes are not supported by the....less expensive scan tools. The software available for laptop and palms gets good reviews here, and the high end diagnostics like a Rotunda NGS or Snap-on scan tools also work.
If you get a performance programmer like Superchips SCMT, it will scan your truck and any other Ford, but I don't think it will do anything but generic codes on off brand OBDII systems.
