Thanks
Shimming raises your fuel pressure going to the injectors. Ideal pressure is between 50 - 70 psi (measured at the schraeder valve). As these trucks get older the spring in the FPR (fuel pressure regulator) gets weak and the fuel pressure drops over the years. This mod helps restore and/or raise the fuel pressure. I have never heard of anyone having a problem from a shimmed FPR. It is a good idea to check your fuel pressure before shimming, several poeple have found that they already had 60-70 psi and did not need the shim. Also check the pressure after shimming to make sure that you are not making too much pressure. Hope this helps.

Thumbs up

One more time, thanks again plowhand for your clear answer. Im going to check first the fuel pressure, can I do it with a gas fuel pressure tester?

Can you tell me something about the CCV mod, same thing: pros and contrs, is it necesary for my truck?, any links with different options?; with the search button of, i cant find to much. I just read this one: http://guzzle.rbmicro.com/ccv1.html

Let me tell all of you, that with the mods I have done, reading this forums, my truck works great every day, and most of them are cheap, all funtional and DIY, I have done little by little, as you can see in my signature.

best regards

Yes you can use a gas fuel pressure gauge if it has the adaptor to fit the schraeder valve, or you can use a 100 psi tire pressure gauge. If you use the tire pressure gauge, put several paper towels under the schraeder valve and one around the part of the tire pressure gauge that goes on the valve. When you press the gauge onto the schraeder valve the gauge slide will come out, as soon as it stops, remove the gauge, or it could spray fuel all over the engine compartment. Fuel will leak from the gauge at both ends.

The CCV mod is usually done on trucks with an IC (Inter Cooler) to keep the oil that leaves the CCV from entering the IC and restricting the air flow. If you do not have an IC the CCV mod does not have alot of benefits other that reducing the oil in the intake that may cause the intake boots to lossen (I've never had this problem). But regular maintenance and tightening of the intake boot clamps also works well.

If you become a supporter you will have search function. "If FTE has saved you $15 then become a SUPPORTER"

You can also do a search through google, by typing: ford-trucks.com/forums a space and then your topic. But again I vote for becoming a SUPPORTER. If you join for 3 years you get a COOL t-shirt.

Question

I received a mail from Larry Layman <larry@ford-trucks.com> and ask me for my t-shirt size, I answered to him by mail but the mail return to me, with this words: I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following
addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.
So where, to whom or how, I can send my t-shirt size and my shipping adress?

Here in FTE there are not a "contact us" (at least I didnt find it), and I dont have the search function or the "supporter" word added.

Thanks.

RÖENTGEEP, At the top of our forum, you will see Announcement: under that you will see "webmaster" in blue. Click on the blue "webmaster". When his profile opens, look on the right under "Contact Info", then click on "Send a message via email to webmaster". Tell him what has happened and he should be able to help you. Congratulations on becoming a supporter.

A regular bb is just slightly smaller than 3/16. Will this still work as the shim?

well,I did the fpr shim today.Did'nt make much of a difference that i could tell.I did clean the filter on the fpr.It was filthy!I also noticed a small wire screen and what looks like a plastic orifice in the bottom of he valley. The screen as far as i could tell went to the vent on the fpr but I'm not sure about the orifice deal. The truck is still shutting off on me once or twice a day.I figured all the air would be out by now and I just changed the cps.Mt tach does move when I crank it also.
