Remove the rubber fuel return bypass hose which connects the fuel filter air bypass orifice (check valve) to the return line at the #1 fuel injection nozzle. Do the same at the Injection pump return check valve to #2 fuel injection nozzle.
CAUTION:
Care should be taken when removing or installing hose to the plastic fitting at the fuel injection nozzle return lines. Lubricate hose with diesel fuel to ease installation.
Install a suitable length of clear polyvinyl chloride hose (looped to view fuel flow) in place of the rubber fuel hose.
Run engine at approximately 3,000 rpm for two to three minutes to clear air from the system, which was induced by the previous operation.
Observe fuel hose for air bubbles at 3,000 rpm. I'm not a fan of 3000rpm anytime so maybe a drive for a few miles at highway speeds????.
Any continuous stream of bubbles larger than (1/16 inch) indicates air ingestion. A moving concentration of bubbles of any size or foam is unacceptable.
Is there a concentration of air bubbles found? Yes/No.
