Hi guys I have a 1985 F350 diesel I use for towing. I ran my truck with no oil for about a block. I am now hearing a light knock when I rev. Hoping I did no
damage to the motor. If any body can help me? or should I look in to rebuilding
the motor. Hopping to hear from any body thank you.
Welcome to FTE. Does the knock start when the engine starts and go away as it warms, or does it start after it is warm, or do you hear it all the time?
Thanks TRIKE1946: No it does not knock when I start it up. But it does knock when I rev it up the oil pressure is OK. This just happened yesturday an I will look out for other sounds. I will be in touch thank you for all your help.
get it into your shop----NOW--if you can hear a knocking sound--in a diesel--and its is rod bearings--your about that far away from throwing rods--why--because there is a whole lot more compression in a diesel--and once those bearings get real loose--they will really start to pound out--and blow the rods--no joke--seen em--and yes--you can drop the pan--and replace the bearings--without removing the engine---
Thanks guys you have been geat with your replys I am going to but the truck in the shop monday to be repair. I got a price of $1200.00 to replace the bottom end.
my high mileage 6.9 knock was caused by piston pin bosses wore out to the point were the pistons started to breake in half it knocked very bad it also had a lot of blow by. take off oil fill cap when it is running and see how much air comes out of hole
