Are the seals in the spindle holdin it in or do you have to go in diff. to unlock it with the c clips ? if its the seals, anyway to remove without destroying them. thnx for any help...
This information is only intended as a general guide not specific steps.
Guide info.
1) Remove the hub
2) Remove the nut and washer on the axle that was behind the hub
3) Remove the bolts on the back side of the wheel bearing that holds the wheel bearing on the knuckle assembly.
4) Remove the wheel bearing assembly (HUB ASSEMBLY)
5) Remove the ball joint spindle nut and separate the ball joints
6) Remove the spindle assembly.
7) If you don't have enough room to remove the spindle you will have to separate the ball joint and remove the stub end of the axle.
Now you should be able to replace the joints. This did not include any caliper, brake, jacking information. Targeted only for how to remove the axle stub end.
This did not include any SAFETY INFORMATION,, just a general outline of 'what' has to be removed. It does not include any installation information. Use good mechanical safety practices and replace any damaged defective parts on reassembly.
gotta take the whole hub assembly off ,theres 4 nuts holding it on on the back side of the hub, axle should slide out after that be carefull of the inner seal.
You may have to give the axle a good tug, but it should slide out. There's nothing other than the inner seal holding it in once you've removed all the stuff on the outer axle. Be careful not to screw up the inner seal when you slid the axle back in. Here's a write up on replacing the ball joints.
Tom 28, there are no c-clips in differential. Once the bearing assembly is removed, I tap the axle out from the backside, just turn the spindle all the way to the right, and tap on the axle shaft with a hammer (right where the steering axle u-joint is). That should drive the axle and seal out. That vacuum seal is a very tight fit so just be patient with it.
