I took my 2006 F350 4x4 into a dealer for the 6th time to try and get rid of a shake in the rear of the vehicle. Today I am told that the wheel that was replaced last week is wobbling. This will be the 3rd wheel to be replaced. Are the chrome clad steel wheels poorly made? Frankly, I'm getting tired of running around to the dealer to get the problem fixed. This was not the original selling dealer. I took it 5 times to the original dealer and they replaced two wheels on two different occasions. Today I went to a different dealer and was told the wheel is out of true and the tire is bad. The truck has 3800 miles on it.
Are the 18" chrome clad steel wheels bad or what? This is getting frustrating.
Chromed wheels can be very fustrating. I know aftermarkets can have issues, I haven't had any problems with factory chromes, but that is from limited experience.
My sugestion would be, get plain steel wheels and simulators.
Are they replacing the same wheel every time? WTF comes to mind in this situation never the less. I have no idea, but it would seem unlikely all these wheels are bad to me. What are the odds? I mean say they are supposedly good when they installed them and judging by your miles it's in no time at all they replace the wheel or a wheel again and with two seprate dealers seems unbelieveable. I would guess something else is the matter. With 3800miles I'd be getting rather upset and the dealer(s) would be clear just how livid I was. Good luck to ya. I hope somewhere down the line you find a tech and not a parts changer.
Therein lies the problem with alot of Ford Dealerships. Many mechanics these days do not know how to diagnose problems, they let a computer or machine do it. I'll wait and see what happens.
I had 2 bad ones on mine when it was new... IMHO it was just a way for ford to save some $$$.by giving us a $16 rim on a $40K truck.. Ive yet to replace mine but its on my list of things to do..
I agree with you there. A $16 rim on a $40K truck. Does that make sense? Sure, if you are the manufacturer and increase the profit margins. Having said that, there's NO excuse for poorly designed and manufactured rims. But it all boils down to the almighty $$$$$$
The funny part is.. Truth be known it costs Ford A LOT MORE money to offer 16 17 18 and 20" rims of varying styles. then it would that to just say> Ford superduty comes with 20" rims.. thats it... From a procurement standpoint its bbetter to have fewer choices tires and rims... From a service parts standpoint its better to have fewer choices.. but oh well.. They replaced 2 of mine but the rims are still questionable at best.. I just havent felt like dumping 2Grand into rims and tires for this thing yet.. LOL

The stock Ford chrome wheels are plain steel with a plastic chrome cover added.
