Check engine light on.

Alright, the hammering noise has left my engine after putting my new injectors in. I think I am on my way to having a fully functioning truck again, however, I am still getting quite a bit of blue/white smoke coming out on and off. I'm hoping that this is still the process of the injectors getting cleaned out. I am also experiencing a check engine light coming on and off at idle or under acceleration. It really has no pattern, and when I had the guy at Autozone run the scanner for codes, it came back as "no codes stored". Before I put the new injectors in I would get a check engine light on only under hard acceleration. I just assumed it was because of the bad injectors, now I'm not so sure. Any ideas what it could be?

Most Azone scanners dont speak the powerstroke dialect of ODBII. Other than the ocasional smoke does it do any thing else when the light comes on?

I did not realize that the Autozone scanners didn't work on the PSD's. You think they would have known that. Anyway, it's just the smoke on and off. Seems like all the power is there. The only other problem I'm having is the truck almost always takes 2 attempts to start. My buddy says it sound like the starter is having a tough time engaging, like maybe it's not tight to the flywheel. When you crank it and it doesn't start, you can hear it whining until it stops spinning. It didn't do this before the injector replacement so I think it's starting hard due to the air in the system yet.

My GUESS would be air in the oil rail that needs to get worked out and it is causing the ICP sensor to read an incorrect pressure. Thus giving an intermittant "injector control pressure above/below desired" code. But this is just a guess without seeing codes and if this is it it should clear up after a little driving.

Good to know. Where, and how much can I buy a code scanner for the 7.3 PSD, and will the same scanner work on the 6.0 PSD? I have a '00, '02 and an '04 so a universal scanner would be helpful.

Try www.autoenginuity.com

Dennis at ITP diesel has it a little cheaper but if you are wanting to maintain a PSD you cant beat it. The enhanced ford package that you will need runs ~350 and I saved more than that in labor cost the first 2 months i owned it. This package will read any ford made since 1996
