I picked up a 79 F100 from Texas. 302/c6 combo. This is gonna be my playtoy.. heres where im startin with the motor ..
Holley 650
Edelbrock Performer RPM Intake
Comp Cams Cam (Lift: .509''/.512'' Duration: 268°/280° RPM Range: 1600- 5800)
Mild port/polish on the heads
Comp Cams Valvesprings-retainers
LT headers
Not tearin the shortblock apart. Rods and mains are in good shape with still decent compression on all cylinders.
Also a 2400 stall conv. and B&M Shiftkit in the tranny
Somebody wanna plug that into desktop dyno and see what comes out??
Thoughts? Suggestions?
I'll pull the Shortblock apart the end of summer (2007) and change the pistons, bore/stroke etc etc

Do a head swap. Any thing's better than those 70 cc chambered boat anchors it's got. A set of E7's with the exhaust ports opened up and the bowls blended would be a good cheap choice. Do the cam some good to raise the comp ratio with smaller chambers. Mill the E7's about .030 to ge the cc's down to about 60. That'll give you about a full point increase over the 78 heads.
What's the rear gear ratio? A lot of the pre-overdrive F-100's had 3.08 or worse. Your engine with the mods is going to want more rpm's than a 3.08 gear set will allow.
Its actually in the 2s but I have a set of 3.73's to go in it. I'll check around for a better set of heads. What did the E7s come installed on?? First smallblock ive done. Have put quite a few FE motors together before so im still learnin waht came on what etc etc
E7's: all GT Stangs, 87-97 E & F series 302 and 351W's, 87-91 Lincoln Mark VII's, Some of the last T-Birds and Cougars before they were killed and downsized. Look for a large "T" cast in one corner next to the valve cover rail if still bolted down on the engine.
Pushrod and valve clearance would not change with a swap from the 79 heads to E7's. Both use the same valves. With a cam swap, I'd only bother if it's a really big grind.
