mileage, throttle problem

mileage, throttle problem
hello,i am new to this site and i am glad to see this site. great site. mileage problem is this: when i change oil @ 3000 miles i am getting around 15 for auto. and soon as it gets to 3000 i am down to about 9..... is this normal?????
about throttle i can start it and give it fuel but dont go nowhere. soon as i "rap" "kick" side of foot feet i have throttle. been told it was either throttle or idle sensor... question is there a more affordable way to fix then buy factory replacement for 336 bucks to get these 2- 3 dollar switches??
pickup is a 97 F-250 4x4 and i was also trying to find the forum where someone put a b-b in fuel line i think to gain power and economy??? i think that is what i heard from a friend . any help??? would be great.
