I have a '94 F150 4x4 with 4.9l I6 and manual transmission. My turn signals have started acting funny. When I push the lever to turn left or right, the signal starts normally with the "blink - blink - blink" noise and at a normal flashing pace. Then the blink/click noise stops and the flashing speeds up. Can someone tell me what I need to fix?
Replace the turn signal flasher first.
Does it doe the same thing with the emergency flashers?
The load in the circuit will affect the speed of the flashing - if you hook up trailer lights with a standard flasher (2 bulbs) the trailer will add a bulb and total 3 bulbs causing rapid flashing.
My 1996 F250 did the same thing. I changed the flasher unit and it fixed the problem. Yes their is 2 seperate units on it, the flasher relay in on the backside of the fuse box. Crawl underneath the dash and you will see it. This will fix your problem.
I have electronic flashers in my crewcab... they flash at the same rate whether there are the body blinkers only, or trailers, or overheads attached, or all three.
And because I hate how they sound, I shoved a cotton ball into each of them and covered with electrical tape.
There are two flasher units - one for the turn signals and one for the hazards. I switched them and the turn signals work again. I'll replace the bad one tomorrow. Thanks for the help.
