first of all i have a 2004 f250. it has a cold starting problem if it is like below 50 degrees. the truck fires up but it sounds like it is coming apart. however if i plug the block heater in it does perfect. is it normal for one to be that sensitive to cold weather. 2) my heater inside the truck doesnt work unless i am running around 1800 or up rpms if i let off the gas it starts blowing cold air. 3) in the summer i had overheating problems coolant would come out of the overflow box. ......any suggestions on what the problem is with this truck???
1, Diesels may be susseptable to the cold, but 50 degrees shouldn't be a problem. 2, Sounds abit like a vacume problem with the heater door, a clogged heater core or a failing water pump not pushing enough hot coolant into the heater core. 3, It very well could be the water pump not pumping enough coolant. Your coolant mix can effect alot of that too. Better than 50/50 mix, will not absorb or release heat very well.
The odd thing is over heating doesn't change with the air tempature. Only thing I could think of that changed is you are now diverting some of the heat into the heater core.
When was your last oil change? What kind and grade of oil are you using? Cold starting issue could be caused by an oil issue. The 6.0L is known to like clean oil. The injectors are fired by the oil so that's why it's so important.
As for the heat, it may be a vacuum leak as ReAX mentioned. A slight leak could cause lose of vacuum at low throttle. It could also be a pump issue. I would dought the clogged core, but anything is possible.
The heater blowing cold air at low RPM and the truck overheating in the summer may be do to a bad water pump that is not flowing properly at low RPM's. Have the dealer pressure test the cooling system and check the functionality of the water pump.
appreciate all the suggestions im guess im going to carry it to the ford place tomorrow and see what kind of big bill they can charge me with. i had them check the overheating before and all the idiots did was flush the cooling system. i have called them back but they said they didnt want anything to do with a 6.0 cause its too much work or something like that. oh well maybe this other ford dealership will do it up right. i am running rotella in it.
one more question i have the edge attitude chip it has 5 different settings. i know that if u give the truck too much heck it will blow head gaskets or whatever but when i put it in the 4th or 5th setting it does good until it shifts into 3rd. its like the tranmission is falling out if shifts real hard and jerks. and when i let off the transmission acts crazy for a few seconds. i keep the chip on the gas millage setting and dont run it hard. but i was just wondering why it does it. my buddy has the same truck and chip and his shifts normal.
im running a banks monster exhaust, if i cut the cat off the exhaust will it affect the durability of the truck?
appreciate the info guys!!
