I have a 97 f-350 and have been plugging it in and I don't think my block heater is working. I have felt with my hand where it screws in below the oil filter and the metal feels cold.
Are there better ways to check and see if its working?
Should I need to replace it, is it fairly easy?
Where is the best source for a new one with a competitve price?
Thanks alot,
You need to wait about 2-3 hours b4 you feel the warmth.
Ohm across the 2 flat lugs on the plug. You should have continuity. If not the element is burned out.
I don't know where to get a replacement except the stealship. Someone else??
i can hear mine while its going. stick your head in the drivers side fender well. also if it arcs when you plug or unplug it. may need a cord or new heater both are fairly cheap. if you need the part numbers let me know.
Thanks for the replies...
I plugged and unplugged tonight in the dark and no ark.......
I usually run the block heater on a timer set to come on at 2am and the timer kicks off at 8 am, which I am usually already gone to work by then anyway..
I am leaving it plugged in all night tonite and will watch to see if the temp guage moves......
On my dodge trucks, when they are plugged in the intake heater doesn't even kick on.......so on the Ford when they are plugged in do the glow plugs still come on?
If it proves to not be working, I suppose I will get a new element and cord from my IH dealer that I use.
It would save me some time if anyone has the part numbers that IH uses for these parts on this engine.
Riata I just actually picked up the direct replacment block heater from powerstrokeshop dot com its 29 for the zerostart block heater and cord. that was 30 less than locally. search for part number psm/3100043.
