Engine heater

I am going camping here shortly and plan to take my 1500 watt generator just in case it gets real cold. The other day I plugged my pickup in using the generator for about 1.5 hours. It wasn't real cold out, but when I started it, the temperature didn't seem to increase quickly. Is there a way a person can tell if the block heater is working? Also, is the 1500 watt generator big enough?

Thanks, Chad

I noticed a slight arc when I plugged in the cord the other morning. Also, the engine oil cooler felt a little warm to the touch after being on for a while. Not sure of the amp draw on the heater element, but 1500 watts seems kinda low.

THe block heater has a 1000W element in it. You can Ohm across the prongs on the cord to make sure the element is not burt out. Not sure what the exact reading should be but it should not be an open circuit.
