Fan question

What is the CFM on an OEM fan on the 6.9's and 7.3's? Thanks.

I can't give you a number, but it is a lot when the fan clutch is locked.
Six blades, steep pitch, turning at the engine RPM moves a lot of air.

You may know how I know. I replaced with electric fans. I was asked this question and I am not for sure.

COOL! What kind of fan did you use? Dave and I had a discussion recently about wheter I might be able to use a couple of Ford Taurus fans. One behind the radiator and wired normally as a puller, and one in front of it wired reversed as a pusher.

Any guess on how many ponies it freed up?

I have interest in electric fans also. I converted the AC system from R12 to R134a a couple of months back (texas, remember). R134a has different characteristics and does not cool as well when idleing. I think more air flow would help at the condensor and reduce compressor hi side head pressure.

I looked at the auto stores but did not see anything that would work.

I used two 14 Flex lite fans. Fans can pull up to 15 hp. This figure can vary depending on the fan. I did it mainly because it improved my AC. When I re-did my AC system, I used a pressure switch off of a Kenworth to cycle the fans. I also have a manual override to pass the temp switch. I also have a shut down on the engine for overtemp. I override it when I am driving it. Both of mine are wired as pullers. Anything you can get off the engine will give you more of the power you are making where you really want. You can also put an electric vacuum pump system off of a late model if you wanted. I don't know what these items pull for sure, HP power wise.

I posted this question because somebody asked me and I didn't know. The CFM will vary on rpm ect.

My fans came from NAPA. My switches and relays I picked up myself. I have a friend that deals in this stuff, whole sale supplier.

I can not remember for sure, but I think Flex Lite may be the name of the fan I was using. I seem to remember mine were 18" or so, the biggest one they make. The composite blades broke off after a year or so, and the amperage draw was to much when I was plowing snow.
