i say if youve got to have a 1/4 mile vehicle it needs to be a small light car... like a pinto then throw a built 500 horse 460 into it (its been done) and have a 10 second car... or put a 1000 horse 460 stroker into it and have a 8.5 second car

if he wants to do this with a truck then more power to him.anybody can put a big engine in a light package and go fast but it'll be alot more fun and interesting to do it with a heavy truck.i think he's on the right track and will have one heck of a sleeper when all said and done.

I also belong to a CHEVY truck forum and there are several guys there that arent running 1000 hp in a full size truck(all STEEL and long bed) and are running 10.90-8.90 so I am not convinced that it takes that kind of Hp to make a truck move like that.

8.9 second 1/4 ... must either be lying or has it in an s10... an s10 is much lighter so would be easier to make go fast... if you want to know how much power it would take to get a vehicle going however fast in a 1/4 mile- just do a google search for a 1/4 mile calculator and start plugging in numbers... youll see that you need insane hp in a truck to get it to do 8.9 in a 1/4

actually Darrin we now have one of those calculators right here in FTE, look at the top of the page. but the ET calculater can be found at this link.
https://www.ford-trucks.com/calculat..._mile_et/a-et/

3000lb vehicle takes 550hp to get into the low 10s, and that calc doesn't take wind resistance into account and most pickups weigh a lot more than 3000lbs, so the guys claiming low 9s and 10s with thier steel bodied chebbies are lying period.

My ranger weighs in at 3600lbs with the big block in it, totally gutted body, but it's 4x4 so that adds a little. according to the calculater mine would run in the low 9s, but it's a lot closer to 1000hp than it is 550. Oh and that weight is with alum heads so there is some drop in weight on the motor.

i wonder what a courier would be like with an all aluminum 460... engine mid-mounted for traction and handling... theyre considerably lighter than a ranger- i think from the factory theyre about 2600 lbs with a 2.3- so figure about 2850 with the aluminum 460 and c-6... now theres a 1/4 mile truck

Its a Ford forum - what are you going to expect? we think Kia's are gods gift to vehicles?

We aren't bashing Chevies here... just stating facts.
A 550hp motor will struggle to get an 1800lb RX-7 down the track in 9seconds, which is far more aerodynamic than a truck.
Fat chance it will get any form of truck down the track that quickly...

I just want to apologize to MONSTER BABY. I too build engines and have for street cars/trucks to class 1 off road buggies to sand drag cars. So I am going to retract my statement made last night and again I'm sorry.

lance, all is forgiven, I have removed the offending posts for obvious reasons, stick around I think you will find we are a pretty good bunch of good ole boys and you will also find there is some pretty knowledgable folks that post in here a lot, including some I consider to be some of the top BBF engine builders on the planet.
Only thing is like Big said this is a ford site, I try to steer bashing away as it usually serves no purpose, but I can also get riled up once in awhile too.
Anyway have fun and enjoy the site.
