Like everyone, I am concerned with gas prices. I have a 1995 F150 4x4 with 302 and auto trans. supercab. I get 12 mpg all the time, city or hwy. My question is does anyone think changing out the front hubs with manual locks Warn milage busters will help. Or taking the front drive shaft off during spring and summer months. Of course I live in NC, so we get snow once every two to three years. And yes I am a newbie so please don't be so harsh.
I have a 91 f150 4x4 standard cab. I get 14mpg with city/highway driving. If I get more highway I can get a little more. I have the Warn premium hubs as my auto hubs went bad years ago. I run bigger tires 32/12.5/15 too with 265,000 miles on the original engine.

You need to do a tuneup and check for codes, or slow down. You should be able to get 15-20mpg with that thing.

The only way either of these would make any difference is if the auto hubs were broken and not unlocking when you shift into 2wd. Is this the case?
I get 17MPG WHY and 14ishMPG city. But I tend to drive like an old lady. I used to get 12MPG all the time but after a tuneup, new O2 senser and a good throttle body cleanning it got a bit better. And by the way welcome, you'l find lots of good info hear. I know I have
Wow i wish i could get 17hwy and 14i in town. My pickup has maybe 5,000 miles on a fresh tune up and like i said im getting like 14hwy. You must have higher gears than i do to be able to do that much better.
My truck has 3.31's and is completely stock. The best I ever got was 16 mpg at around 55 mph. I think it is more like 11 or 12 going 75 down the interstate.
It all depends on your area . Its fairly flat? I live in the hills of western Pa . With 31" tires get 15+ mpg. I've had 15 plus, of these trucks and of the 302 autos 3;55 rears I've had 14 is the average on road. Manuals close to 17 mpg on road. best milage I've got was on trip down south (summerville NC) I got 20+ on interstate. Do a tune up clean intake and sensor, injectors.
In your defense My last work truck was lucky to break 13 mpg . I took motor out of the 93 truck and put everything (plugs, wires, y-pipe in a 94 . Just changed injector wire harness.) both trucks have same rears 3:55 and get High 15 's go figure
good luck
